Expand Your Mind By Adding These Practices
Give your mind the right environment. Cleaning up the body’s endocrinology will allow the mind to function at peak efficiency. The first step is eating the right foods and not eating for long periods of time. The brain thrives in the presence of ketones. Fasting creates these ketones as well as a high fat, moderate protein, low car diet. Creating the right atmosphere for superior brain function starts here.
Sleep is essential to brain function. Staying up late to watch the next episode can be enjoyable, but not at the cost of brain functionality. The body and brain need a minimum of 7-8 hours of sleep a night. As all functions in the body, it can take a week or more for the benefits of a proper sleep cycle to manifest so staying true to a sleep cycle is important.
Watch less TV. Television has a way of mesmerizing the mind. Even watching documentaries can act as hypnosis of the mind. Turn the TV off and find other means of entertainment. Make the act of turning the TV on difficult. Unplug the TV and put the cables in a part of the house that is far away. Put a book or something interesting closer and see what happens.
The Hero’s Journey. Put something in your path. Find a task or goal that is important to you and make it your secret passion. Voluntarily adding difficulties and responsibilities to your life is a sure way to light up brain activity and give a sense of accomplishment. This is even more important as we age. Those who stay young in the mind, stay engaged in life journey through hardship.
Reading. It is well known that reading increases mental activity. Read for the enhancement of daily life. Even reading a small amount, 15 mins or so, will lead to an increase in mental capability. As reading becomes a habit, it will be easier to digest larger portions of books. Learning in this way is key to unlocking the mind.
Art. Art is a human invention. It is an expression of the intangible spirit inside human beings. Children are always experimenting with art. They pretend and express themselves fully through artistic forms. Their minds are constantly expanding in part because of this creativity. Keep your mind expanding by finding an artistic outlet like learning a musical instrument, painting, acting, sculpting, writing etc. Find the right outlet and release.
Meditation. Meditation is renown for expanding the experience of consciousness. It requires dedication and practice, but the benefits are impossible to measure. As mediation becomes a habit, the realization that this world is a product of the mind and thus malleable will be apparent. This is perhaps the most difficult and beneficial of all mental practices.
Exercise. Not only is exercise good for the body, but it is also essential to a healthy mind. The increase in blood flow and good hormones has a huge effect on brain chemistry. Furthermore, the difficulty of exercise will reveal, consciously or otherwise, that the only limits are the ones applied by your own mind. Break free from the mental by engaging the physical.
